VISION AND LEARNING
"A child needs to learn to read before they can read to learn"
The WORDS are
BLURRY
"I'm always tired"
"My head hurts"
These numbers
don't make sense
"I can't read this"
I can't
SPELL
I've LOST my place

How we can help
If any or all of the symptoms listed above sound familiar to you then we would like to help you.
When something is difficult it is natural to avoid it. When this becomes a battle of wills, self esteem is lowered, frustrations arise and there is seemingly nowhere to go.
At Vision Care Development, we are passionate about using this optometrist-supervised treatment program that can, in many cases, successfully correct specific visual challenges faced by children and adults.
You may have taken your child to an optician and been told that they have 20 20 vision yet they still have issues learning.
Your child may be suffering from Visual Stress.
Visual Stress is a symptom of a perceptual processing condition. This causes reading difficulties, headaches and visual problems from exposure to patterns in text, such as lines of text. Visual Stress is sometimes misdiagnosed as dyslexia and sufferers can experience print distortion and fatigue when reading. Auditory Processing and Movement for learning may also play a part and our multidisciplinary team will look at all these elements.
We are passionate about diagnosing the problem and helping your child.
We understand that no two children are the same and we will investigate where the problem lies.
Ruth Perrott MBE, our Behavioural Optometrist is one of the most specialised in the country. She has an in depth understanding of how the brain and eyes work together to ensure that children are able to clearly see an image and interpret it.
Our Education Consultants, Auditory Processing and Vision Therapists, are established learning, dyspraxia and autism specialists who understand how the student will need to perform within the classroom and will support both parent and child to navigate the educational system.
We are a multi - disciplinary team where health and education meet.
We find out what the passions of your child are and we will centre our activities around this making the sessions fun and enjoyable.
We have an awareness of legal requirements in the classroom.
Our approach to your child’s learning difficulties is unique & multi disciplinary.
The skill sets needed to read and write can be resolved by very simple exercises which change the balance of muscles in the eyes and the link between the brain and the output to resolve difficulties and creating learning.
This therefore results in a child not needing a label or diagnosis but instead very simply just progress forward
Our Vision Therapy sessions are fun and engaging. We include gross motor movements on the trampette and the gym ball. Our eye tracker will tell us where the eyes go during reading, and whether they have to hunt for the word before they can find it, let alone to identify and understand it.
"A child is born with a pair of eyes and not a visual world."

What is Vision Therapy?

I'm just writing to let you know that Graces first day back at school was a huge success! She read her book to the teacher fluently and really enjoyed her writing work. Grace has spent a few days writing on every scrap if paper she can find and is amazed by her own handwriting, she brought it to me ( a new slime recipe) and said "look mummy, I can write like primrose! I'm going to catch up with the others!"
She's so happy. Thank you for listening to our gorgeous girl Ruth, we look forward to seeing you again soon.!
Kristie S. Parent of Grace. age 7
My daughter was complaining of double vision and moving words. I brought her to Ruth to be assessed. They discovered that she had trouble with convergence - basically her eye muscles were not strong enough. What happened next was amazing. Firstly Ruth prescribed bi-focals which immediately helped. Next Ruth introduced a number of fun & engaging exercises which when practised over time worked at strengthening her eye muscles. Within 6 weeks my daughters problems had gone! It was outstanding.
Ruth's approach is so unique and effective. They make the sessions so enjoyable that my daughter couldn't wait to go each time. I'm so grateful that they have helped her.

Vision Therapy
Vision Therapy is a series of exercises for the eyes and brain. It is a highly effective non-surgical treatment for many common visual problems such as lazy eye, crossed eyes, double vision, convergence insufficiency and some reading and learning disabilities.
Many patients who have been told, "it's too late," or "you'll have to learn to live with it" have benefited from vision therapy.
